Places To Propose In London / 01
Big Ben
Big Ben brings that instantly recognizable London charm to a proposal, with its striking architecture and classic city backdrop making the moment feel extra memorable. A lovely place to propose is near Westminster Bridge or around Parliament Square, where you can keep Big Ben beautifully in frame while still leaving room for a more natural, relaxed photo. Early morning usually works best for softer light and fewer people, while late afternoon can add a warm glow as the city starts to buzz. Tip: This area stays busy with both traffic and visitors, so it helps to choose your exact spot ahead of time for a smoother, less rushed experience.

The London Eye is one of the most iconic places to propose in London, with beautiful views over the Thames and a backdrop that makes the whole moment feel extra special. One of the best spots is along the South Bank promenade, where you can frame both the London Eye and the river for a classic London proposal photo. Early morning is ideal for softer light and fewer crowds, while sunset adds a romantic glow as the city starts to light up. Tip: This area can get busy, so choosing a slightly quieter angle nearby can help the moment feel more intimate while still keeping the London Eye in the background.

Tower Bridge
Tower Bridge creates such a beautiful setting for a London proposal, with its grand towers, soft blue details, and views over the River Thames adding that classic, cinematic feel. A lovely place to propose is along the riverside near Butler’s Wharf or on a quieter side of the bridge, where you can keep the full structure in the background without too many distractions. Early morning works best for softer light and a more peaceful atmosphere, while sunrise adds a dreamy glow across the water and skyline. Tip: The bridge can get busy during the day, so choosing a nearby angle just off the main path can help your moment feel more private while still keeping Tower Bridge in view.

St. Dunstan in the East Church Garden
St. Dunstan in the East Church Garden is one of London’s most magical proposal spots, with ivy-covered ruins and a hidden-garden feel that makes the whole setting feel extra romantic. One of the best places to propose is beneath the arched stone windows or near the vine-covered walls, where the mix of historic architecture and greenery adds beautiful depth to your photos. Early morning is usually best for soft light and fewer people, though late afternoon can also bring a lovely warm glow through the ruins. Tip: Since it’s a public garden, try to avoid weekday lunch hours if you want the moment to feel a bit more private.

How To Hire A London Proposal Photographer
The moment you reach for the ring, adrenaline and emotions start to kick in and you might not even remember the moment! Hiring a secret London proposal photographer for your surprise engagement will allow you to capture and relive that moment again and again.
Your marriage proposal is a story you will never tire of telling, so it definitely deserves better than selfies! Capture it with London proposal photography that you'll look back on for years to come.
How does a proposal photoshoot work?
Before choosing a photographer, we recommend having some London proposal ideas in mind first! There are two ways a proposal photoshoot usually happens:
- Hire the photographer for a “normal” photoshoot with your partner, but let the photographer in on your secret proposal plan! This is the best way to ensure the photographer captures the moment perfectly, usually at a closer distance and better positioned.
- The photographer can be waiting at the designated spot to secretly capture the moment, paparazzi-style. After the big moment, the photographer can introduce themselves and proceed to capture that post-engagement glow.
After your photo shoot is booked, you will be able to plan and coordinate with your photographer directly.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a proposal photographer cost in London?
Local Lens proposal photo sessions in London start at $295 and range up to $490+ USD, with three packages from 60 minutes to 2 hours. All of our photographers are handpicked for their quality, style, and skill, and there’s no extra fee for a marriage proposal—just a 1-hour minimum booking requirement. Keep in mind that some locations may also include additional travel fees or entrance fees.
Can I include flowers, champagne, or decorations in my proposal?
Yes! This depends on the photographer’s availability and ability to help coordinate those details, and any extras may come with an additional cost paid either to the photographer or a separate vendor. If you’re planning something special, we recommend asking in advance what’s possible and what the added cost would be.
Are London proposal spots usually crowded?
Some of the best-known landmarks absolutely can be, especially around midday, weekends, and school holiday periods. Choosing a weekday morning or a tucked-away angle near the main landmark can make your proposal feel much more intimate without losing the London backdrop.
Can I get all the RAW photos?
What is the best time of day for a London proposal photoshoot?
Early morning is usually the sweet spot for a London proposal photoshoot, with softer light and fewer crowds at popular landmarks like Tower Bridge, the London Eye, and Westminster. London weather can change quickly, but cloudy skies often make photos look even softer and more flattering. A little flexibility goes a long way here, so it’s always worth checking the forecast and being open to small timing adjustments.
Do I need a permit for a proposal photoshoot in London?
Usually, no permit is needed for a simple proposal photoshoot in public spaces if you’re keeping things low-key and not using large equipment. Some locations, especially Royal Parks, may require a permit, and places like Westminster Abbey or St Paul’s Cathedral may have strict photography rules or not allow proposal photos inside at all. It’s always worth checking the exact spot ahead of time so everything feels smooth and stress-free.
Can I buy a proposal shoot for someone else?
Yes! Purchasing a gift card is an easy way. You can also make the inquiry and book the photographer and then once you are ready to pass communication off, just change the contact preferences in your Local Lens account and then the photographer will switch over to communicating to the person you select.
How long does it take to get the photos?
Your photos are edited for light, color, and composition, then delivered in high-resolution JPEG format through a private online gallery within 5 business days. Your photographer will upload more images than the number included in your package, so you can choose your favorite photos to keep. From your gallery, you can also purchase additional digital images, prints, canvas prints, and more. We partner with Bay Photo, one of the best in the business for professional art-quality photography prints.
