Pick your season

Late spring (May–June) and early autumn (September–October) are the best all-round windows — mild, comfortable, and clear.

Summer (June–August) is warm, with long daylight hours that give you extended golden light for the river and squares.

Winter (December–February) is bitterly cold, but it’s when Moscow is most dramatic: snow on St. Basil’s domes, lit against a dark sky, is unforgettable — and the ornate, heated Metro is the perfect refuge between shots.

Light and the snowy icon

💡 Local tip: For the classic empty Red Square shot, go on a weekday — sunrise or late at night — when crowds thin and, in winter, snow falls on the floodlit domes. Check ahead: the square sometimes closes for events.
