The Alcazaba & Gibralfaro: A Málaga Visitor’s Guide

What to shoot

The Alcazaba is a genuine Moorish palace-fortress — horseshoe arches, gardens, and courtyards climbing the hillside, with the Roman Theatre visible at its base. A walled corridor connects it directly to Gibralfaro Castle above, and it’s the climb up those walls — for the panorama over the port, the bullring, and the Mediterranean — that makes this Málaga’s essential photo stop.

Time it right

Golden hour flatters the honey-coloured stone beautifully, especially from Gibralfaro’s ramparts looking back over the city and sea. Bring water if climbing in summer — it’s a warm, exposed walk with little shade. The Alcazaba is free every Sunday from 2 pm, a good budget-friendly window if your dates align.

💡 Local tip: Visit the Alcazaba first, then take your time on the walled corridor climb — the views open up gradually and there are several good stopping points to shoot back over the rooftops before you reach the top.

Make it a story
