Tegallalang Rice Terraces
Tegallalang Rice Terraces is one of the most beautiful places to propose in Bali, with layered green fields, swaying palms, and a peaceful jungle setting that feels both romantic and distinctly Balinese. One of the best places to propose is along the upper terrace viewpoints, where you can enjoy the sweeping landscape without standing right in the busiest walkways. Early morning is the ideal time for proposal photos here, with softer light, cooler air, and fewer tour groups moving through the terraces. Tip: wear shoes with good grip and leave a little extra time, since some paths can be steep, uneven, and slippery, especially after rain.

Tibumana Waterfall
Tibumana Waterfall is such a beautiful proposal spot in Bali if you want something more tucked away and intimate, with a single straight waterfall, lush jungle surroundings, and a calmer feel than some of the island’s busier waterfall stops. A lovely place to propose is near the edge of the pool with the waterfall centered behind you, where the backdrop feels clean, dramatic, and naturally romantic in photos. Early morning is best here for softer light and fewer visitors. Tip: bring a small towel or blotting paper, since the mist and humidity near the waterfall can affect hair, makeup, and clothing more quickly than you might expect.

Tegenungan Waterfall
Tegenungan Waterfall is a stunning Bali proposal spot for couples who want something lush, bold, and full of natural beauty. A lower viewpoint facing the waterfall gives you a dramatic backdrop with a clear view of the wide cascade, without needing to stand too close to the strongest spray. Early morning is the ideal time for photos, with softer light and a quieter atmosphere before more visitors arrive. Tip: leave a little extra time in your plan, since the stairs and main viewing areas can get busy and make the moment feel less private if your timing is too tight.

Bali's Beaches
Bali’s beaches are such a beautiful choice for a proposal if you want something relaxed, romantic, and naturally scenic. Melasti Beach is perfect for dramatic cliffs and turquoise water, Jimbaran Beach has a softer feel with calm waves and golden sunsets, and Nusa Dua Beach is great if you want a cleaner, more polished stretch of sand. A quieter spot near the water usually works best for the proposal itself, especially away from the busiest beach club areas. Sunset is the most flattering time for photos. Tip: check the tide in advance since the shoreline can look very different throughout the day.

Pura Catur Lawa Ratu Pasek
Pura Catur Lawa Ratu Pasek offers a peaceful and meaningful setting for couples who want a proposal location in Bali that feels deeply connected to Balinese culture, tucked within the sacred Besakih temple complex near Mount Agung. The outer courtyard areas, with their stone gates and mountain-facing views, create a striking backdrop while still keeping a respectful distance from spaces used for prayer. Morning is usually the best time for photos, with softer light and a calmer feel. Tip: dress respectfully and stay flexible, since ceremonies or worship can affect access to certain areas. Opening hours: generally daily 7:00 AM–6:00 PM. Tickets: about IDR 150,000, though access details can vary depending on temple activity.

Brahmavihara Arama
Brahmavihara Arama has a quiet, tucked-away feel that makes it especially lovely for a Bali proposal if you want something calm, reflective, and away from the island’s busier photo spots. The upper terraces near the gardens and lotus pond create a soft, elegant backdrop, with layered greenery and temple details that photograph beautifully without feeling overly busy. Early morning works best for photos, when the light is gentler and the grounds feel more still. Tip: keep your outfit simple and respectful, and plan for a slower, more low-key moment here rather than something rushed or elaborate. Opening hours: daily 8:00 AM–6:00 PM. Tickets: about IDR 25,000–35,000.

Private Spots in Bali
Private proposal spots in Bali work especially well if you want a moment that feels more personal and fully your own, whether that’s a clifftop villa in Uluwatu, a hidden jungle stay in Ubud, or a stylish private space in Seminyak or Jimbaran. Instead of sharing the setting with other visitors, you get the freedom to shape the atmosphere, take your time, and enjoy a proposal that feels more relaxed from start to finish. Open terraces, garden decks, or poolside corners usually photograph best, especially around sunset when the light turns warm and flattering. Tip: confirm exactly what the venue includes ahead of time, since privacy, décor, and access can vary more than they first appear online.

How To Hire A Bali Proposal Photographer
The moment you reach for the ring, adrenaline and emotions start to kick in and you might not even remember the moment! Hiring a secret Bali proposal photographer for your surprise engagement will allow you to capture and relive that moment again and again.
Your marriage proposal is a story you will never tire of telling, so it definitely deserves better than selfies! Capture it with Bali proposal photography that you'll look back on for years to come.
How does a proposal photoshoot work?
Before choosing a photographer, we recommend having some Bali proposal ideas in mind first! There are two ways a proposal photoshoot usually happens:
- Hire the photographer for a “normal” photoshoot with your partner, but let the photographer in on your secret proposal plan! This is the best way to ensure the photographer captures the moment perfectly, usually at a closer distance and better positioned.
- The photographer can be waiting at the designated spot to secretly capture the moment, paparazzi-style. After the big moment, the photographer can introduce themselves and proceed to capture that post-engagement glow.
After your photo shoot is booked, you will be able to plan and coordinate with your photographer directly.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a proposal photographer cost in Bali?
Local Lens proposal photo sessions in Bali start at $225 and range up to $350+ USD, with three packages from 60 minutes to 2 hours. All of our photographers are handpicked for their quality, style, and skill, and there’s no extra fee for a marriage proposal—just a 1-hour minimum booking requirement. Keep in mind that some locations may also include additional travel fees or entrance fees.
Can I include flowers, champagne, or decorations in my proposal?
Yes! This depends on the photographer’s availability and ability to help coordinate those details, and any extras may come with an additional cost paid either to the photographer or a separate vendor. If you’re planning something special, we recommend asking in advance what’s possible and what the added cost would be.
What time of year is best for a Bali proposal, and how risky is the rainy season?
Bali’s dry season usually runs from April to October, which makes it the easiest time to plan a beach, temple, or outdoor proposal with clearer skies and more predictable weather. The rainy season is typically November to March, but showers can still be short and manageable, so the biggest key is building in a little flexibility rather than assuming the whole day will be washed out.
Can I get all the RAW photos?
Do I need special permission to propose or take photos at temples in Bali?
Not always, but temple proposals in Bali do require extra care because dress rules, prayer areas, and ceremony schedules can affect where photos are appropriate. Many temples require a sarong and sash, and visitors are often limited to outer grounds rather than inner courtyards, so it’s best to plan for a respectful location and stay flexible on the day.
Do Bali beach clubs, cliff venues, or private villas require reservations or minimum spend for a proposal setup?
Often, yes — especially if you want a sunset table, daybed, private corner, or styled setup at a popular venue. In Bali, some beach clubs allow walk-ins for general entry, while premium seating or reserved spaces may come with a minimum spend, so it’s smart to confirm exactly what is included before finalizing your plan.
Can I buy a proposal shoot for someone else?
Yes! Purchasing a gift card is an easy way. You can also make the inquiry and book the photographer and then once you are ready to pass communication off, just change the contact preferences in your Local Lens account and then the photographer will switch over to communicating to the person you select.
How long does it take to get the photos?
Your photos are edited for light, color, and composition, then delivered in high-resolution JPEG format through a private online gallery within 5 business days. Your photographer will upload more images than the number included in your package, so you can choose your favorite photos to keep. From your gallery, you can also purchase additional digital images, prints, canvas prints, and more. We partner with Bay Photo, one of the best in the business for professional art-quality photography prints.
