Kangaroo Point Cliffs: A Visitor’s Guide
The heritage-listed cliffs facing the CBD across the Brisbane River give the city’s best skyline view — and its best photograph. Here’s how to visit.
The essentials
| Where | Kangaroo Point, across the river from the CBD |
| Cost | Free · public clifftop + riverside path |
| Best light | Sunset into night |
| The shot | Skyline + city-light reflections on the river |
| Getting there | CityCat ferry, walk from South Bank, or drive |
Where to shoot
You can shoot from the top of the cliffs for an elevated skyline, or the riverside path at the base for water-level reflections. Both face straight across the river at the CBD towers, with the Story Bridge off to the right. The riverside boardwalk is the pick for the classic mirror-of-the-city shot.
Time it right
Come for sunset, when the sky paints the skyline orange and pink — then stay past dusk into night, when the CBD lights switch on and reflect across the river. That sunset-into-night window is the single best photographic hour in Brisbane.
💡 Local tip: For the Story Bridge specifically, walk over to Wilson Outlook Reserve nearby — a small clifftop park with the best perpendicular angle on the bridge. It fills fast at sunset, so arrive early.
Make it a story
The glowing skyline and river reflections make a romantic city backdrop, a Brisbane proposal favorite. See our proposal photography page.
