The spots
1. Ha’penny Bridge
Best light: blue hour · Terrain: flat; pedestrian bridge
Dublin’s most-photographed crossing — an elegant 1816 cast-iron arc over the River Liffey. Shoot from the quays for the curve, or the bridge itself for the river views. Lit up at night, it reflects beautifully on a calm evening.
2. Trinity College
Best light: early morning · Terrain: cobbled courtyard; ticketed library
The Long Room library is the showstopper (ticketed, with the Book of Kells) — check hours. The free Front Square, with its cobbles, Campanile, and Georgian facades, is just as photogenic. Go early to beat the crowds.
3. Temple Bar (the quiet side streets)
Best light: early morning · Terrain: cobbles (mind heels)
The famous red pub is mobbed by afternoon. Come early morning for empty cobbles and colourful facades, and wander the less-crowded side streets for the best frames without the crowds.
4. Georgian doors — Merrion & Fitzwilliam Squares
Best light: soft daylight · Terrain: flat pavement (private homes)
Dublin’s signature rainbow doors with brass knockers and fanlights. Free and walkable — stroll the whole square, as the best (and least busy) doors are often a bit further along.
5. St Patrick’s Cathedral
Best light: golden hour · Terrain: flat grounds + park
Ireland’s largest cathedral, in Gothic Revival stone, with a small park alongside for framing the exterior.
💡 Local tip: Dublin’s icons — Trinity, the Ha’penny Bridge, Temple Bar — are all a short walk apart. Start at sunrise and you can shoot three or four before the tour crowds arrive, then let the Ha’penny Bridge close things out at blue hour.
