The spots
1. Mallory Square
Best light: sunset · Terrain: flat waterfront plaza The famous nightly Sunset Celebration — street performers, vendors, and the sun dropping into the Gulf. It kicks off about two hours before sunset; come early for a rail spot.
2. Fort Zachary Taylor
Best light: golden hour · Terrain: beach + historic fort The quieter, more romantic sunset — a Civil War-era fort and a coral-rock beach where the Atlantic meets the Gulf. Free with park entry.
3. Duval Street
Best light: late afternoon · Terrain: flat, walkable Florida’s most famous street — colourful storefronts, street art, and lively energy for candid, characterful frames.
4. Southernmost Point
Best light: early morning · Terrain: flat corner (see note) The red-yellow-black buoy marking the bottom of the continental US. Note: the original is under renovation — a full-scale replica stands at Duval Pocket Park until it returns (see Post 3). Go early; there’s always a line.
5. Higgs & Smathers Beaches
Best light: golden hour · Terrain: sand + pier Palms, white sand, and the Reynolds Street Pier at Higgs for classic tropical frames.
💡 Local tip: Parking in Old Town is a genuine headache — walk, bike, or rideshare between spots. The whole photogenic core is compact enough to cover on foot in a morning.
