Marbella Old Town: A Visitor’s Guide

Behind the glamour, Marbella’s Casco Antiguo is a picture-perfect Andalusian old town — whitewashed, flower-filled, and centuries old. Here’s how to visit it.

What to shoot

Start at the Plaza de los Naranjos — orange trees, a Renaissance fountain, and the flower-decked town hall — then wander outward. The whitewashed lanes with blue plant pots, wrought-iron balconies, and bougainvillea are the real treasure; the Ermita de Santiago chapel and stretches of old Moorish wall add history. Every alley is a frame, so slow down and explore.

Time it right

Come early morning, before the café terraces spill across the squares, for empty cobbles and soft light on the white walls. Golden hour warms the lanes again in the evening. Midday sun bleaches the whitewash and casts hard shadows — use the shaded alleys then.

💡 Local tip: The best-preserved, least-crowded corners are a few streets off the Plaza de los Naranjos — wander past the main square and you’ll find quieter, prettier lanes to yourself.

Make it a story
