1. Christ the Redeemer (Corcovado)

Terrain: train/van + platform. The 30-meter icon over the city.
Arrive before 9am for clear skies and thinner crowds.

2. Sugarloaf Mountain (Pão de Açúcar)
Best light: sunset·
Terrain: two-stage cable car. Panoramas of Praia Vermelha, Copacabana, and Christ across the city — glorious at sunset.
3. Selarón Steps (Escadaria Selarón)
Best light: late morning
Terrain: public staircase, 215 rainbow-tiled steps between Lapa and Santa Teresa. Busy — stick to the archway area by day.
4. Parque Lage
Best light: golden hour·
Terrain: mansion courtyard. A palm-filled mansion courtyard with Corcovado framed above — one of Rio’s most elegant, and calmer, spots.
5. Mirante Dona Marta
Best light: sunrise
Terrain: drive-up viewpoint. A panoramic lookout with both Sugarloaf and Christ in frame — no hike, and Rio’s sunrises are often clearer than its sunsets.
6. Ipanema & Arpoador
Best light: sunset
Terrain: beach + rock outcrop. The famous beach, plus the Arpoador rock for Rio’s celebrated sunset over the water.
