1. Gamla Stan
Best light: before 7am, or golden hour · Terrain: cobbles (hard in heels) The medieval old town — ochre and rust facades around Stortorget, and Mårten Trotzigs Gränd, the city’s narrowest alley. Come before 7am: it empties out, and low eastern light warms the 17th-century walls.
2. Monteliusvägen
Best light: sunset · Terrain: clifftop path The 500m clifftop walk on Södermalm with City Hall, Riddarholmen, and the Old Town in a single frame. In summer the sun sets behind City Hall; the Ivar Los Park benches give the most open composition.
3. Riddarholmen
Best light: sunset · Terrain: flat quays Broad quays with an uninterrupted sweep of Lake Mälaren and City Hall across the water — the spot for the classic city-reflected-in-water shot.
4. Fjällgatan
Best light: golden hour · Terrain: elevated street The other great viewpoint — Gamla Stan from the east, plus Gröna Lund and the islands, with cafés for fika.
