1. Nyhavn
Best light: sunrise / blue hour · Terrain: flat quayside The postcard: colourful 17th-century houses along the canal. For the mirror reflection you need calm water — no wind, no passing boats. At sunrise, shoot the south bank from the opposite side, where the light bounces off the facades.
2. Christianshavn Canal
Best light: golden hour · Terrain: flat, walkable Just as photogenic as Nyhavn and far quieter — houseboats, bridges, and reflections. Do a full loop; the bridge linking it to Nyhavn is a bonus vantage.
3. Nyboder
Best light: overcast · Terrain: flat residential streets A village of bright orange-ochre row houses in the middle of the city. Especially lovely under soft, overcast, or snowy light. People live here — be respectful.
4. Church of Our Saviour (Vor Frelsers Kirke)
Best light: daytime · Terrain: climb the external spiral tower (ticketed) The corkscrew spire delivers the best 360° city and harbour views. Check seasonal opening.
5. Marble Church & Amalienborg
Best light: sunset · Terrain: flat square Frederik’s Church dome framed over the royal palace square — a dramatic sky behind it at sunset makes the shot.
💡 Local tip: Copenhagen is windy, which ruins canal reflections. If you arrive to a glassy Nyhavn or Christianshavn, shoot the reflection shots first — the water rarely stays still for long.
