Where to stand
The reflection happens at Red Rock Crossing in the Crescent Moon Picnic Area, off Upper Red Rock Loop Road. A short, flat, accessible trail leads to the creek bank — ideal for couples, families, and larger groups who don’t want a hike. Move along the bank to line Cathedral Rock up over the water.
Time it right
Late afternoon into sunset warms the rock face. The mirror effect needs calm, full water, so it’s strongest in spring and after rain; in dry spells the creek can drop and the reflection with it.
💡 Local tip: The picnic area gates open around 9am and close at dusk, with a day-use fee — so this is an afternoon-to-sunset spot, not a sunrise one. Arrive early on weekends; the lot fills before golden hour.
