Best Time for a Koh Samui Photoshoot

Here’s the thing most guides get wrong: Koh Samui’s seasons run opposite to Phuket and Thailand’s Andaman coast. Plan around the island’s own rhythm.

Pick your season

Late December through April is the sweet spot — dry, sunny, calm seas, and clear water for beach and boat shoots. It’s also the busiest, so book early.

May through August stays mostly dry with the occasional shower, hotter and more humid but noticeably quieter — a good value window.

October and November bring the island’s heaviest rain (this is the reverse of Phuket). The upside: jungle and waterfalls at full flow, and far fewer people. Build in flexibility and indoor backups.

Golden hour on a tropical island

Midday sun near the equator is intense and overhead — harsh for portraits. The hour after sunrise and before sunset gives warm, soft light and gentler heat.

💡 Local tip: East-facing beaches (Chaweng, Silver Beach) shine at sunrise; the Bophut/Fisherman’s Village side is the sunset play. A local photographer plans the day around which coast is lit.
